Last week I had the wonderful opportunity to do a personal branding session for Jo Drinkwater (nee Wilton), Independent Consultant with Rodan + Fields at Balmoral Beach. Jo came prepared with hair and makeup on point and various outfits and accessories to create her look so we had lots to play with.

There is truly something special when someone works hard and follows a path that they are truly passionate about as that glow shows in their eyes, their faces when they smile and I just can’t stop photographing them as that positive energy they emit glorious! Jo was one of those people :)

What services does your business provide?

Skincare company with focus on Anti-ageing , sensitive skin, acne, and sun damage. Rodan + Fields is essentially a virtual franchise. As an independent consultant I focus on marketing and sales and the product development and innovation is handled by a team of experts. In fact the Doctors behind our products also developed pro-active and still work  as dermatologists in San Francisco.

When did you start your business? 

Rodan + Fields has been on sale in the USA since 2009 and is now the NO 1 skincare brand in North America. I started my business in 2017.

Why did you start the business?

My goal when I started my business was to find a way out of the corporate world. I wanted to do something that would keep me challenged but give me more time with my family and more time for fun

Tell us a bit about yourself. 

I’m an ex chartered accountant / banker with a psychology degree. I’m a Mum/Stepmum to 3 teens and a 1 preteen and have been lucky enough to find a man that will clean the bathrooms. I like champagne, country music and horse racing and unwind by watching reality TV.

Who might your business appeal to?

Anyone who has skin can use our products. Women in the age of 30 to 55 are the biggest group but more and more men are purchasing product or joining the business. We also just launched a new teen acne range in March 2019.

Our best- selling product for anti-aging is the Redefine Range. For $256 (Preferred customer pricing) you get 4 products for use morning and night that will last you 2-3 months.

What is your usual turnaround time?

Product is received within 5 days of ordering

How has your experience with your business been so far? Were you nervous or worried before? How did it turn out?

This business has changed my life. It can be challenging at times but it has blessed me with new friendships, new skills and an opportunity to live a more relaxed life

What are some of the difficult aspects of your job? (e.g. difficult client, keeping up to date with blog/marketing, etc). How did you deal with it?

Understanding social media, I much prefer to spend time with people.

The most rewarding part of this job is seeing my team and fellow consultants achieve success.  Whether that be financial, time freedom, more confidence, or simply more friends.  I recently had a woman join my team and within 2 weeks she had surpassed her own income goal and surprised herself. Watching that self-belief grow is amazing.
